Seller levels vs seller ratings
| StockX level | Quarterly sales needed | Transaction fee |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | — | 9% |
| Level 2 | 12 sales or $1,500 | 8.5% |
| Level 3 | 40 sales or $5,000 | 8% |

| Level 5 | 800 sales or $100,000 | 7% |
On GOAT every seller starts at a rating of 90. Each successful sale adds 2 points and each cancellation removes 10. A rating of 90+ keeps commission at 9.5%; dropping below 70 raises it to 20% and below 50 to 25%, plus a possible account review.
Which should you choose?
Pick StockX if you move real volume and can climb toward Level 4–5, or if you sell catalog-matched deadstock — the blind-bid flow means no photos or haggling. High-volume sellers pay the lowest percentage here.
Pick GOAT if you sell used pairs or need a photographed condition workflow, or if you have a drop-off location (the seller fee drops to $0). Just protect your rating — GOAT's penalty for cancellations is severe.
Most serious resellers cross-list on both and compare per item: the difference in the current lowest ask sometimes matters more than the difference in fees. Price each listing so you still hit your target margin.
Frequently asked questions
Which is cheaper at the entry level?
They are almost the same. On a $200 pair, StockX takes about $29 (9% + 3% + the label) and GOAT takes about $29 (9.5% + $5 + the 2.9% cash-out), so take-home is roughly $171 either way.
Who wins for high-volume selling?
StockX. Its fee keeps dropping with volume, down to 7% at Level 5. GOAT's floor is fixed at 9.5% and cannot go lower, though it stays there as long as you keep a high rating.
How do I avoid GOAT's cash-out fee?
Keep your earnings as GOAT credit and spend it on the app, or cash out during a promotional free-ACH period. Otherwise the 2.9% fee applies on withdrawal; the minimum cash-out is $25.
Can I sell used sneakers on both?
GOAT supports used items through a photo-based condition flow. StockX is centered on catalog deadstock, but its newer Listings Marketplace allows photographed, used inventory for sellers who are granted access.
